Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 6, 1989, a group of seven people, An Ji [see No. 25], Yang Ziming, Yang Ziping, Yang Yuemei (two brothers and a sister), Wang Zhengqiang and Wang Zhengsheng (two brothers) and Zhang Xuemei went to Fuxingmen and were ambushed by martial law troops at the intersection of Lishi Road. An Ji was killed on the scene. Yang Ziping and Wang Zhengsheng [see No. 39] died at Fuxing Hospital. Wang Zhengqiang and Yang Ziming were seriously injured.

Circumstances of Death Zhao left home at 1:00 a.m. on June 4, 1989 and was hit by three bullets at the Xidan intersection. His body was taken to the Second People's Hospital and was found by his family there later. His ashes remain at his family's home.

Circumstances of Death At about 10:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Lei and two other drivers went to Tiananmen to visit the Goddess of Democracy. They were squatting by the wall of Nanchizi to have a cigarette when the troops rushed in shooting along east Chang'an Boulevard. Lei was among the many hit by the bullets. He was put on a flatbed tricycle by local residents and has not been seen since.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Zhong and four fellow students rode their bicycles toward Tiananmen. On the way, he was hit by a bullet in the right side of the chest and died at the Emergency Center.

Circumstances of Death At about 11:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, he was hit by two bullets in the chest near the Fuxingmen Subway Station. The bullets went through his body and left a hole as big as a bowl in his back. He was taken on a flatbed tricycle to the municipal Children's Hospital where he died as a result of losing too much blood. On June 9, his body was taken to the Fuxing Hospital and left with other corpses in the bicycle shed. His body was located by his family on June 11. The Shijingshan spital issued a certificate of accidental death for him and held a memorial service. He was buried in Babaoshan Cemetery.

Circumstances of Death At about 11:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Ni and six other young men left the Geology Hospital on their bicycles. At Xidan, he was shot in the chest and abdomen. He was taken by local residents to the Xuanwu Hospital and died there. In 1990, his work unit issued a certificate stating that he had died an "unnatural death," and adding that "he violated martial law and should be responsible for the consequences." His family was paid 835 yuan-an amount equal to his basic wage for ten months. Two of Ni's companions-Cao Changren and Wang Jianwei-were injured in the incident.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Kuang was shot at Muxudi. The bullet entered his lower back and exited at the right side of his abdomen. He died in the hospital. His ashes are kept at his home.

Circumstances of Death At about 7:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Yin left home on a bicycle. At about 10:00 p.m., he was seen by someone near the Telegraph Building. Later, someone saw his dead body pierced by gunshot wounds at Liubukou. His body has never been found.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, He finished the night shift and intended to visit his father-in-law. He was shot by the troops at the southern intersection of Nanheyan. A bullet hit his temple and he died before reaching the hospital. His family found his body in the Xiehe Hospital two days later. Someone brought his bicycle to his home.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Zhou her husband and their child were looking out a window at home when they heard the sound of shooting. The troops strafed the building, and Zhou was hit in the head. She died on the spot. She was buried in Babaoshan Islamic Cemetery (though Zhou was not a Muslim).

Circumstances of Death At 10:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Zha was shot by martial law troops in the head while on his way to Gongzhufen. He died at No.301 Hospital, and his family recovered his body on June 5. After cremation, he was buried in Tianjin, his hometown.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Song was resting at home in Muxidi when he heard gunfire and went to close the windows. He was shot through the stomach, and was taken to hospital. However, the army supervisor at the hospital would not allow any emergency treatment and ordered that there should not be any mention of a gunshot wound on the death certificate. He was buried in Babaoshan. His father later wrote a letter to the CCP Central Committee, lodging a complaint against the Public Security Bureau of Xicheng District and Premier Li Peng. He has never received a reply.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Chen rode his bicycle to Xidan, was shot by martial law troops in the heart and died at the Beijing No.2 Municipal Hospital. His family, however, had to search everywhere for his body and finally requested help from the Sanitation Bureau. His decomposed body was discovered one month later, identifiable only by a surgical scar on his abdomen. After cremation, he was buried in Jiangsu, his native province.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Yang left with his classmates to purchase a monthly bus pass, then proceeded to the Beijing Hotel. At the southern intersection of Nanchizi, he was shot in the spleen in the early hours of June 4 and died in Xiehe Hospital as a result of losing too much blood. His family was notified by his classmates three or four days later and retrieved his body. After cremation, his ashes were kept at home.

Circumstances of Death At about 6:40 a.m. on June 4, 1989, Peng left his home in Dongdaqiao in Chaoyang District to buy breakfast. A fusillade of gunfire by the troops hit him twice. One bullet hit his ankle, the other entered his right back and exited through the left side of his chest. He died in Chaoyang Hospital.

Circumstances of Death On the evening of June 3, 1989, Su was returning home after visiting her mother. Still worried about her mother, who lived alone on Fuchengmenwai Street, Su decided to turn back to check on her. But, the southern intersection of Nanlishi Road was blocked. In the early hours of June 4, the troops strafed pedestrians by the roadside. Five people were shot. Su was hit in the chest and died in the Beijing People's Hospital. She was married but had no children.

When his body was picked up from the hospital, it was covered with flies, and his wounds had become putrefied. His body was cremated on June 7 at Babaoshan. His ashes were not kept.

Circumstances of Death At 7:00 p.m. on June 3, 1989, Cui left home to go to work. His shift was supposed to end at 2:00 a.m., but his family waited for two days, and he still did not return. When his family went to look for him at the factory, they learned that on the night of June 3, after arriving at the factory, three people rode their bicycles toward Chang'an Boulevard. Then one went east, one went south and Cui went west. Gunshots were heard, and Cui never returned. The two others returned to their homes safely. Cui's family searched many hospitals but found no trace of him. To this day, he has not been seen, either dead or alive.

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, Zhang was shot in her own home, located at Hepingli. When she heard the chaos occurring outside, she leaned out the window facing the street, and was shot through the heart. She died instantly.

Circumstances of Death During the 1989 demonstrations, XXX and several of his classmates went to Beijing to deliver contributions that they had collected for the students on hunger strike in Tiananmen Square. He never returned to school. He has not been seen since, either dead or alive. (This information was provided by many teachers from Jiangnan University. The disappearance of XXX is widely known throughout his school.)

Circumstances of Death On the night of June 3, 1989, at around 11:00 p.m., the martial law troops were proceeding to Muxudi, and the crowd was retreating. Seeing the threat of danger, XXX opened the main gate of No.301 Hospital, allowing people to take refuge in the courtyard. He was shot by the martial law troops in the head and chest. He died instantly. (This information was provided by many eyewitnesses.)
